Gloucester pottery fabric type series

Fabric: Fine, sand-tempered fabric with larger, rounded inclusions of shale or unmixed clay, some calcareous material of sand size. A green glaze. Handmade, but sometimes wheel finished, oxidized or reduced.
Form: large bridge-spouted jugs with decorated strap handles and sagging, thumbed bases. Handmade cooking pots decorated with combing on neck.
Decoration: Usually decorated with combing or horizontal grooves, sometimes with applied figures.
Date: first half of 13th c
