Gloucester pottery fabric type series

Fabric: The main inclusions are rounded oolitic limestone fragments up to several mm. across. There is very little quartz sand, and the surfaces often have a smooth texture, and micaceous glitter. Handmade and Wheel-thrown, reduced or oxidized although most commonly oxidized on both surfaces or totally.
Form: various shapes and sizes of cooking pots, commonly with everted rim, globular body (eleventh-thirteenth century) or straight-sided with club rims (eleventh-twelfth century); shallow dishes are also found.
Date: mid 11th-early 13th c.
